recommended tools/soldering gear etc for getting into light building/modding?

I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for what one would need to perform basic modifications on lights for someone just starting out? I have many tools but only have a normal, large soldering iron which seems like it won't play nice with these tiny components. I see some little "workstations" on ebay that have soldering iron/heat gun etc all in one for like 80 dollars. Would something like that be ideal or should I be looking elsewhere?

For the occasional user, usually the solder stations like you see on Ebay are OK. As with all tools, you get what you pay for so don't expect a lifetime of service from though you might get many years. One thing to look for is whether or not you can get alternate or replacement tips for them and buy a few now.

Thanks for the heads up. I will order a few spares along with the workstation. I don't plan on going crazy so was hoping it would be enough for occasional use. If I end up using it more I'm sure I will upgrade in the future
