Pinkrobe & psycho mikes charity ride Auction

I would like to offer this prototype trout light for an auction to all comers .
with the money it makes being split between Psycho mike and Pinkrobe to the ride to end cancer.
It is not a complete light but what you get is .

A unique housing that fits the oversize bars
quad leds installed ( I cant remember if they are Q5 or R2 ) but certainly minimum Q5
    A quad Cute optic ( i think it is a medium )

you would need to supply a driver and switch .

I will pay the shipping .

Here is a picture and there are others somewhere on here .

Make any bids on this thread ( if this is OK with the Mods )

and it finishes when the ride is done with the highest bidder sending the money to the 2 riders and I send the light out then

Troutie, that is most generous of you. Thank you a bunch. If the page gave karma or brownie points or something, I'd be tagging you with tons of 'em!

Looks like Pinkrobe and I will be doing the same event (sure hope to see you there PR -> nice pic on your participant page, btw)... I would suggest that the closing date be set at May 25th. This would give the winner a chance to send the donation forms (if they decided to print off and mail them from the website) before the mail-in deadline of May 29th. If not, we could set it later, but the winner would need to use the on-line donation form on each or our participant pages. If the on-line version is used, the winner should appear on our honour rolls, which would be an easy way for you to confirm payment before sending the light.

    Just some thoughts.

Once again, thanks a bunch Troutie...the support is greatly appreciated.

I am happy to help a worthy cause like this one .
And hopefully some one gets a unique light . I must confess to robbing the driver out for a different project

And thanks to Hendo you are at least on for 10

If some one has a driver to donate I will finish the build and then it may make a few Dollars more

Wow! Thanks so much Troutie! That's very kind of you! I would have posted earlier, but I have been out of town for the last few days. I agree with Psycho Mike's approach to conducting the auction, the online form is easiest. The Ride to Conquer Cancer is definitely a worthy cause, and from the bottom of my heart I thank all who contribute.

As an added incentive, I will personally match the contribution of the highest bidder, up to $500.00 CAD [about 275 or €300]. It's my way of saying thanks.

I don't know if I can match it on my end (I've just gotten word that Mrs. Psycho and I have got our first house...moving expenses and hook-ups to be paid for) but I fully intend to try to kick in as well.

At present, it'll likely be the km's from using my car for work (when needed...I try to commute by bike at least once in a while) that'll be thrown into the mix on my end. Not a lot all at once, but it'll add up in time.

    Guys,

I have consulted with the "higher powers of MTBR" and they agree with the cause and the purpose of the thread, but bidding on the forums doesn't seem to be well taken.

A suggestion that came up as an alternative could be to make a blog post on the matter (with a link on this thread) and have people bid on the comment section.... it could even be in an MTBR blog if you prefer.

    What do you guys think?

No problem, I'll set up a blog here on MTBR and get the info posted up.

    ***EDIT***

The blog is set up at http://forums.mtbr.com/blog.php?do=showjournal&j=408. HHH, if you would be kind enough to comment on the blog with your bid, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mike should take it. He has farther to go in terms of fundraising than I do. You can donate on his RTCC page. Choose the Free Wheel option and you can put in any amount you want. Thanks!

    Update on the bar light

    Update on the donated light
I will now put a driver in the light so it will be a working item.
the winning bidder will need to put a connector of their choice on it

and it will need to be connected to a 14.4 li ion battery.

Driver going in and thread bump

Just a quick bump to say the driver will be in soon and a tail cap made
It must be getting close to the ride soon .
and I see a bid of $50 is winning at the moment .

I am in 2 minds do I complete the build or just supply the bits for the winner to finish
to their liking as I am just having one level and no switch
where as the driver can be wired with a resistor and switch for HI/LO but I have no switch or resistor to hand .

    any comments welcome

light working and beamshot to follow

That is a tail cap scavanged from my bits bin and the driver installed complete with a resistor ready to wire upto a small switch if the winner wants to have a low level.

A convienient hole is there for a switch or will need blanking off the wire tail is ready for a connector of choice only thing left for me to do is get 2 M2 bolts for the tailcap .

I have quite enjoyed ressurecting this light as it never got used because I shorted the Nflex it had in it with a bit of stray swarfe and it never got fixed as other projects got started.
So come on good people donate to a good cause and get a great unique light too

Cheers guys . it is going to a real good cause and some one will get a pretty good light
it has a basic driver in but space in for a flex if the new owner wished.

While we all keep trying new designs and leds I think the quad XRE and cute medium and narrow are a bench mark in mtb lights and will take some beating for simplicity and really good beams

put a medium on the bars and a narrow on the helmet and imho you have the best system out there .
and the prices have dropped a little as everyone wants the new stuff

all the new stuff is fun to play with and inovate but as this beam shot shows we aint making any real improvements except maybe with getting smaller lights

The MCE and P7 same leds , same number of leds smaller package but cant hold a candle to a quad XRE .

XPEs are real fun and the tiny triples may come close and there is a quad optic out there but it is bulked out to 35mm so is really defeating the object
and as you know I really like the tiny square optics but could do with a real narrow version like a laser beam to add to the mix.

Well, the triple R-bin XRE in my 1st DIY is proving that they put out a lot of light in my books. Sure, my build is bigger, but it has opened my eyes as compared to Halogens

    Again, great job Troutie

Hey Pinkrobe....you should post a note to bump the blog and update the current leading bid

    Cool...good team there.

I'm not getting any takers with the Solo Riders team....I may scuttle the boat and go over to Spokes for Hope...they are a local team and I know someone there already. I had considered the Connecting to Conquer Cancer juggernaut, but most of them are in Calgary, so not much chance to get in rides with folks.

Pinkrobe/David..that's pretty rough news. I know Heather was hoping to be able to cheer Team Onesimplegirl on for the ride. I feel for you, man...my condolences and I'm sending some positive vibes / prayers your way to help you, the team and the family through.

It was a pretty rough day here too....nothing like the news you received, but I've sorta had something in my eye all day...

I was talking to the widow of the man I'm riding in memory of....she called me at work today out of the blue. She had some great words of encouragement as she's been following my participant blog (which put a big lump in my throat), but she also dropped a bit of a bombshell on me. The route the Ride is following was part of their last road trip together. They had decided to go to BC and used the Cowboy Trail / Highway 22 from Calgary to the Crow's Nest...pretty much exactly the route we're following for the Ride.

To top it off, next week I go up to a job site....the last site I worked on with him before his passing. Dang, Dominique left some big shoes to fill...and it seems that in the next month and a bit, I'll be stepping into those shoes a lot.

We have a winner! guruman is the auction winner, with a bid of $120USD, and has been contacted. Troutie - Mike and I will let you know when the funds have been donated. I'll match the donation shortly thereafter.

On behalf of Mike, I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to bid, and to find out about the Ride to Conquer Cancer and who we are riding for. It means a lot to both of us. Thanks.

Well, now that I've got a computer hooked up to the net again (I'm moving, so my computer has been getting the run around and is currently sitting on a pile of boxes while I pray my wireless connection holds) I can say thanks too!

Guruman, thanks to you for you awesome bid, Troutie and Pinkrobe, my gratitude for including me in this auction. I am hoping I can kick in a donation as well, though I know it won't be nearly as much (getting one's first house kinda drains the bank account! )

    Cheers,

    You are more than welcome

Psyco, Pinkrobe...you are more than welcome. This is a great cause and it is my pleasure to make these donations. May the sun be shining and the wind at your back the days of the ride. To calculate the CDN $ equivalent, I will use the Bank of Canada noon rate of 0.9198 for June 1...$120.00 USD = $130.46 CDN...and since I like round numbers, I'll use $132.00 for a donation of $66.00 each.

I would like to thank troutie-mtb for his VERY generous donation of the light...without you this would not have happened...so Thank You.

Both guruman and I have made our contributions. Instead of contributing to me, I suggested that guruman support one of my teammates who has not reached her fundraising goal.

Again, thanks to everyone who was part of this, especially Troutie and Mike.

Well, I'm moving right along....I'm at 83% and have some good chances to make my goal (which for the first time out of the gate for a charity ride is mind-boggling).

Thanks again Troutie, Guruman and Pinkrobe for your wonderful support.
