Niterider 3600 enduro -- uses both lamps when on medium?

After ordering a Niterider 3600 Enduro, I'm starting to think I'll end up using it in half brightness most of the time, to save battery and not overpower my helmet lamp.

Does the 3600 still use both lamps when run in medium? (1800), and cast the same wide light spread when at 3600? I won't have the DIY version so I can't control it manually.
