    first time success :)

    hey guys,
ive just successfully got my first cree q5 working! im dead chuffed, ive modded my old petzl zoom head torch, instead of the old halogen upgrade. Im driving it using one of these:

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3256

so theres no controlability, but seeing as i managed this without even breaking out in a sweat i was wondering about putting some kind of dimming into it, i was thinking of using the same driver, but in the live feed to the driver putting a 555 astable chip allowing me to use PWM to control the brightness. By using a potentiometer i could vary the power out between the 800ma and 0ma almost allowing me to have and brightness i like
i need to look into some datasheets into how much power the chip would consume and work out resistor values to control it, would this be worthwhile effort or would the power consumption in the rc part of the circuit be to much?

well i hope that made sense, im pretty knackered at the mo just reply if you have any questions

    cheers,
    Andrew

    Welcome to the arms race.
You are already talking about tweaking your light. We all go through that. In the end the tweaking turns into an excuse to build another light, then another, and so on.
    Pics are always appreciated.
And someone will demand beam shots sooner or later. (hint, hint)

i need some kind of inline switch to go between the battery pack and the lamp housing, but cant seem to find any suitable, what do other people use? if i cant find anything suitable i was just going to put a connector, this would have its advantages as it wouldn't accidentally turn on when knocked around inside my rucksack.
id prefer not to use a normal switch in the housing as i cant find a particually good way to fit it in and its another way for water to get in.

Thanks for the pictures. Cool light.
Inline switches have been the topic here before.
Best solution I can remember is here.
