    Dual XPG DIY question

Ordering parts to build up a dual XPG w/ regina optics. I've already order the R5 LEDs, 1000ma buckplus driver (no dimming controls) and 2 Regina's from Digikey.

My question is would the driver work more efficient with 3 18650 batteries in series or 4? I'm about to place my order through battery space for the holders, cables and switch.

    thanks

3 cells would be perfect but you could get away with 2 if you don't mind your light going dim towards the end of battery discharge.

I use 3 cells on my 2x XPG (with bFlex) no going dim no problem. You won't want 4.

4 cells would work fine, longer runtime at very slightly less efficiency. The runtime would likely be longer than most people would need. Therefore most would settle for 3 cells.

The LEDs will require around 3.2v each so that's around 6.4v for the pair, then add a volt or two for the driver and you get 8.4v. That 8.4v is the min requred to stay on full power.

3 X 18650 cells will go from 12.60v when full down to 9v when empty so is near enough perfect.

4 x 18650 cells would start out at over 16v and be empty at around 12v.
