    Current Question

    How well do the Kaidomain/DX Kennan type (AX2002 IC) drivers hold their current levels?
    I have a MTb light setup in the making that I have been testing.
    With 2x 18650 cells in series feeding these drivers & 2x Cree R2's I get these results.

    Started at 1000ma
    After 30 minutes 900ma
    After 1 hour 800ma
    After 1 1/2 hours 710ma
    After 2 hours 660ma

    Is this normal or should the current levels stay where it started?.

    They should be very stable. Your issue is the number of cells vs the number of LEDs. The AX2002 is a buck regulator and the voltage needs to be higher than the output. For the white LEDs that we are using that means the number of batteries in series needs to be one greater than the number of LEDs in series.

    For example you need three 18650's in series to run two XR-E's in series.

    I did try 3 cells, the current jumped up to 1.4 amps!!

    Something is wrong with your driver. I had a faulty one too, which fried one my emitter, other such drivers were fine.

    Out of 4 from DX only 2 hold current down to 1 amp when driven from 3 18650's, the other 2 jump up to around 1.4 amps. Glad they are cheap!.
