El34 here on the board has a store that sells the individual batteries and chargers.

    Good guy. Fast shipping.

    hoffmanamps.com 18650s -- scroll down about 1/4 page (NC)
edit: Besides DX, I've only bought cells from this place. Agree on the fast service.

    batteryspace.com 18650s (CA)

    all-battery.com 18650s (CA)

    batteryjunction.com 18650s (CT)

Batteryspace charges a HAZMAT handling fee for some of their lithium battery products, but it's pretty vague what this covers. I don't think it applies to protected individual cells. You can call or e-mail them with a product number to see if it applies.

I bought these from Battery Space (+ tabs) with NO extra Hazmat fees:

So far, they have tested very well. Yes, they are more expensive than the DX cells but they actually get their rated capacity and should last longer than the xxxxFire stuff from China. I would hope people would learn their lesson after all the MS BS.

Any hobby store will have them. Most electronic supplies stores as well.
    Heck, even Fry's.

These things are very, very common.

just be careful on the manufacturing date, there are a lot of pretty old laptop batteries kicking around being sold as "new" but being several years old, otherwise it's not a bad idea, especially if you want tabbed cells.
