    50yrs old - the LED

I thought this was a neat little potted history of the LED
BBC News - LED at 50: An illuminating history by the light's inventor

It's cool to think that something that blew my Dad's mind (look, it's tiny and glows red!) now costs $5-10 and can light up a hillside with off the shelf parts.

I have a small collection of vintage cameras. Among those is a Fujica ST801 camera from the 1970's that uses LEDs indicators for the light meter. It was supposed to be the first ever use of LEDs in a camera.

NPR had Nick Holonyak (lead the development team) on for an interview. He had a bunch of interesting things to say.
