Max Tire Width On A 2018 Kona Explosif

I'm considering a closeout steel frame 2018 Kona Explosif and would like to know the widest rear tire the frame will fit with reasonable clearance for mud, The original plan was to buy a 27.5+ bike but the Kona caught my interest with great specs for the price.

There was a thread on the Explosif in the 27.5 forum where this was discussed,I think.

From the looks of it on this video it seems like it has pretty good clearance running normal tyres, not sure about if it would fit anything over 2.6". Jenson has them in stock and on sale, so should be able to give you a better idea if you give them a call. Can tell you that the Unit has loads of clearance for up to 3" rubber, either B+ or 29+.
One day your life will flash before your eyes, will it be worth watching??

Most 2.3" tires can fit with reasonable clearance for mud, etc. Most 2.4" tires fit but you give up some clearance. I wouldn't run anything bigger than that.

I have a 2.5" aggressor on a 33i rim on the back of mine with the dropouts slammed as short as they will go.

Probably not enough mud clearance with this setup, I'd stick to a 2.4" if you are planning on riding in the mud frequently.

And, FWIW, not all tire sizes are the same between manufacturers. For example, a Michelin 2.35 is equivalent to a Maxxis 2.5. So it will be dependent upon brand AND size.
