Hei Hei vs. Hei Hei Supreme Frames...

I wanted to inquire the difference between the Hei Hei frame and Hei Hei Supreme frame for 2007?

Does the Hei Hei come with V-Brake bosses like the supreme?

Is the only difference between the two the rear suspension fork that comes with the frame?

Thanks in advance- 2007 frames is what I am inquiring about.

The frames are identical except for the 'Supreme' sticker. One gets the RP2 shock and the other gets the RP23. I'mm 99% sure the standard Hei Hei has V-brake mounts also. They can be seen here: http://www.konaworld.com/bikes/2k7/HEIHEI/index.html

Appreciate it. I went with the Supreme frame with the 23 shock on it. I am looking forward to my winter build with great pleasure now and can't wait to ride it when I am done.

    Will let you know...

I am currently waiting on the frame right now, so I really am excited about getting this up on the stand and putting it together.

Thanks for responding and enjoy the Supreme!

I see the Hei Hei bikes are spec'd with 80mm forks. What happens if you put a 100mm on them? Screw up the geom and handling?

I put a 100mm Reba Race on my Hei Hei and it rides/handles well.

20mm extra travel will only give about a degrre or 2 difference, not a lot.

and will the supreme lettering be heavier.

got a question/thought. why does the hei hei 29er get 3.5" of suspension while the 26" bikes only get 2.5"? if anything, it seems like it should be the other way around. i would totally get one NOW if the 26" bikes had 3.5" of travel. 2.5" just doesn't seem like it would cut it.

Ok, what is wrong with 4" of travel vs. 3.5"? Kona has the 'Four' (revised 'Kikapu'-family) platform of course...

On the 29er question: I can imagine Kona only wanted to introduce one 29er fs and chose 3,5" for a nice allround xc-machine... I think they don't view 29er as the ideal short xc-race wheel-size (guys like Trebon and Wicks are on 26ers during summertime), but maybe more for endurance-racing? In that field most people don't regret an extra inch of travel...

nothing is "wrong" with the 4" of travel the 'Four' series has, i would just rather have the lighter frame of the hei hei for an all out race bike.

    I hear you...

The thing with Kona is that they always have more meat on them then others. There's simply more material on non race-specific Kona's then on a lot of other machines. This makes them more durable in my opinion (paint excluded...), but never the lightest in their class. I'm afraid that's part of the Kona philosophy (build and tested in BC etc.) and will not change in short time.

A friend of mine has a 2007 HeiHei; 2,5" does more for you in xc then you would think on first notice, of course depending on terrain. Try to testride one before writing it of your list.

yeah, i know someone with a 07' hei hei and maybe a couple of others getting them and i've heard they feel like more than 2.5". i just need to ride one and see what they're all about.
