    Building a new 05 Explosif

I'm putting together a Kona Explosif as my hardcore XC / long distance racing bike. I am not likely to be very competitive racing, I just do it for fun and find it is good for the soul to get my butt handed to me week after week.

I am also learning to be a bike guide here in Austria. To that end, here are the specs so far:

    05 Explosif
    Marzocchi Marathon S 105mm fork
    Chris King nothreadset
Hubs Fr/Rr: DT Swiss Onyx disc / Hope bulb
    Rims Fr/Rr: Mavic 717 / Mavic 819
    SRAM 990 cassette
    SRAM Pc99 chain
    SRAM X.9 rear der.
SRAM X.9 rear shifter, Rocket SRS front shifter
    Shimano XT front der.
RaceFace Evolve XC crank with X-type BB
    Thomson Elite seatpost
WTB Speed V saddle w/Ti rails
    WTB Motoraptor 2.24 rear tire
    WTB Weirwolf 2.3 front tire

The only things left are the brakes. What do you guys think of this build for an all-purpose XC bike? My major question marks are with the wheel/hub combo, and the tires. I think for racing I will get a set of Blue Groove/Nevegal 2.1s, but for general trail and training, I think the WTBs will work great on the gooey / semi-wet conditions we have here.

The wheels are a complete guess on my part based on reviews I've read. Any criticisms with this setup? As for brakes, I am thinking Hope M4 160mm fr/rr or Magura Louise FR.

    Feedback would be awesome. Gracias.

    On paper it sounds sweeeet.....

I think you have yourself a very nice bike there. One you will absolutely love. The wheel combo sounds solid to me. Should be solid but yet light. Post a picture of it when it is all built up.

Thanks, I'll definitely post a pic. As for brakes, I've settled on Magura Martas. They appear to have the best compromise between weight and performance, and they're made in Germany which is relatively local to me.

Odd that I can get Martas for about $100 less in the US than I can in Europe, despite the local manufacture.

I am considering DT Swiss 4.1d rims instead of the Mavics, based on strength reviews. They are only a tad heavier, but evidently better made. The bike should be a little under 25 lbs. when I finally put it together. Not exactly an XC featherweight, but at least I won't be breaking down.
