'02 Stinky Primo set up question (XPosted in "Let's talk about Shocks")

I'm looking to set up an '02 Stinky Primo Frame with a solid Front Fork, and I'm thinking of swapping out the Fox Float 100 RLC I already have, onto that frame. I'm wondering if that will compensate the geometry somehow and/or if that will compromise the ride as a whole. My gut is telling me trade up the 100 RLC to a 130 Vanilla, or a Z.1 '04, but I'm not sure why. I'm looking to build this thing up as a bomber Clydesdale x-c bike that could manage my screwups while I try easy freeride: READ: no drops over 6 feet or so, and even those, will be at a minimum. Thanks folks. 6'3" 205.

    Trade up to the Z1

The '02 Stinky was designed around that year's Z1.

Your 100 mm Fox not only has less travel, but also has a much shorter Axle to Crown height (which most affect the bike's geometry). For instance, my Fox Vanilla 125 is about an inch shorter A2C than the '04 Z1. Personally, that's the shortest fork I would put on that bike.

You would put on the Vanilla 125 or my 100 as the shortest fork?

What the title of the post said.

    Trade up to the Z1.

If you're gonna get that frame and are gonna get a different fork anyway, I'd get a Z1. It's gonna be 1 lb. heaveier than the Fox, but it'll be burlier, taller and better suited to the dimensions of the bike.

You could put the Fox 125 on there, but it's shorter (and thus would steepen the head angle) and won't really do the bike justice, IMO. I run a Vanilla 125 on my Bear and it's fine for that....but I wouldn't put the Fox on my Stinky. Go Z1.
