    How unreliable are XAM's?

So I know theres been alot of talk about the XAM's breaking the rear chainstays. Im thinking about picking up an 08 XAM 2 shock and frame combonation locally to build up to eventually replace my Yukon. The rear triangle was broken and replaced with a 2010 XAM2 rear trianlge. Is this something I should be worried about? The newer rear triangle looks MUCH beefier than the 08 version.

I have yet to even ride my XAM, But I would go out on a limb and say that your would be fine as long as the 08' chainstay was upgraded to the 09' or 10'. I say go for it.

I have a 09 Parker 2 what gave me a chainstay crack scare. once I found out that it was getting replaced, I sanded the paint off the area where the I thought the crack was and found out it wasnt a crack, but just an imperfection in the weld that caused a crack in the paint. Knowing this gives me more confidence in Jamis as long as it did come from 08'

You're good, but I think the '10 have 12x135 rear dropouts though...

they are pretty reliable. the 08s are questionable though. if you look at the 2008 BAM and the 2010 XAM, its pretty much the same bike with different geo and a 135 axle. that should give a hint at what you can do with it.
