    SWIMBA AND IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION PARTNER TO PROMOTE IDAHO CITY TRAILS AND BACKCOUNTRY YURTS

    BOISE – The Southwest Idaho Mountain Bike Association (SWIMBA) and the Idaho Department Of Parks And Recreation (IDPR) are coming together to host a mountain bike ride on May 13, 14 above Idaho City to benefit youth cycling programs, SPROCKIDS and BYRDS. The 1st Annual Yurt to Yurt Poker Run is not a race but a relaxed paced ride on beautiful marked trails stopping at five backcountry yurt check points to collect poker cards. The best poker hands win prizes. Grand prize will be a two night stay at one of the five backcountry yurts.

    Each of the five backcountry yurts house six people in camping comfort. Drive up Friday night and stay in one of the yurts with friends. Saturday morning tour the trails on bikes and attempt to collect poker cards at each of the yurts with two bonus card geocatched somewhere on the trail system. All ability level groups will depart from specific yurts. Prizes will be handed out on Saturday evening at 6pm at the BBQ. Sunday people are encouraged to explore other trails in the area or head home.

    SWIMBA has been supporting IDPR and the Idaho City trail system for many years by assisting in trail building and maintenance. The Poker Run will be a joint effort of these groups to raise public awareness of the areas excellent bike trail system and overnight accommodations and to support youth development cycling programs.

    Registration for the event will open on March 17th and will close on May 7th. The event is limited to 30 people and it will be on a first come first serve basis with preference given to those people who commit to attend any of the SWIMBA’s workdays in the spring or commit to organizing the BBQ. A registration fee of $5 will be charged to cover dinner on Saturday evening. Any proceeds left over from the dinner will be donated to Sprockids.

    Can people stay in the yurts for free that night?
    yes, the BBQ is $5

    How are you designating who stays where?
    Are their leaders for each ability group?
    People will stay in the yurt based on ability for example here is how we are breaking up.

    Advanced Group: Chris
    Intermediate to Advanced: Leo
    Intermediate: Harley
    Beginner: Ted
    Womens: ?

    Where is the BBQ?
    It will be at one of the yurts or in the gold fork parking lot.

    Why only 30 people?
    Each yurt only holds 6 people so that is 30 total.

    What are we doing on Sunday?
    People can explore the area on there own with friends.

    before it fills up... I will do a special trip on sunday for the hardy people who show up.

    It is only $5 for dinner on saturday night and two free night stays in the yurts up there.
