Sun Valley Next Week (Oct 17-21) - Questions for Possible Trip

Me and the fam are going to do a camping / biking trip starting mid next week (Oct 17-21). We live in Park City, and have been wanting to get up to Sun Valley for quite a while. We typically go south (Moab, Fruita, Hurricane, Sedona) for these fall trips, but wondering if it would be worth it to ride Sun Valley. We are used to flowy XC trails (pretty much all that PC has), but really do like riding more techy trails (kids favorite trails are Porcupine Rim, Capn Ahab, GB Mesa, Guacamole, etc).

Is it worth it to drive a couple more hours instead of going to Moab? Figuring that Moab is going to be the zoo it always is on UEA weekend. Are there good BLM places to camp in Sun Valley, as we would be bringing our popup and self-sufficient camping gear.

How is the dirt right now? I think it will be pretty ideal in PC by mid next week (in case anyone is thinking of coming here), but Moab may be dried out by then. Really want some good dirt, good trails and good camping.

Thanks for any info - BS

The Ketchum area was hit with several inches of snow the other day. Some of it has melted while some may stick around.

You may have to pay attention to the weather to see if, or how much, the snow and mud are there.

Forecast calls for sunny and low 60's this weekend. Should be beautiful! Lots of flowy singletrack in/around Ketchum, burlier rides as you get further out of town. Galena has a good network for all levels. Check recreation.gov to see if any of the campgrounds are closed; there is quite a bit of dispersed camping if necessary. Take some time to drive over to Stanley and check out Redfish Lake. Here's the best trails info resource for the area: https://summertrailink.bcrd.org/

If SV is like McCall, then the snow created some perfect hero-dirt. The trails should be delicious chocolately ribbons of fun. ;-) Just watch out for the slippery aspen leaves. Then again, you're used to that in PC too.
