Stanley: record snow and cold spring

Thanks to a cold, wet spring, the Sawtooth's are still accumulating snow on top of near record winter snows.
The southern end (Salmon river headwaters) has more snow than they've seen in thirty years.

Still snow on the higher trails, lots of down trees and washed out roads. Will still be a couple weeks before even the more popular trails are open.
    I wanna ride!

Any idea on Fisher/Williams creek trail? I'm headed up in a couple of weeks and would like to hit it.

Two weeks (depending on the weather) should be enough time for the trails to open. If not, there is plenty of great riding open around Ketchum.

A month? No worries, it'll be ankle deep moon dust by then.

I was up in the Sawtooths hiking on May 24th near Stanley- Iron Creek area heading toward Alpine and Sawtooth Lakes and It was snowshoes almost right from the trailhead. The road to Iron Creek was still closed with drifts.

I rode Fisher/Williams Creek Saturday 6/17. The road up has sustained severe erosion in several spots but there are ways around most of it. I came across 12 snow drifts on the downhill but only a few weren't rideable and not more than 20-30 feet long. The big problem was downed trees most of which were found after reaching the top. 85 total trees. There was a few motorcycle riders clearing trees starting at the bottom going clockwise so hopefully conditions have improved.

Good news, thinking about trying it this weekend. Would like to ride Elk Mtn, Boundary/Little Casino also but I'm sure those full of down trees.
    I wanna ride!

Any beta on Big Boulder-Little Boulder loop down the E. Fork Salmon Rd? Am hoping to ride that this weekend, but may stay down in Ketchum if it's a no go due to snow and trees.

Fisher/Williams Creek trees were cleared out buy a guy on a motorcycle on Saturday 7/1 (Thanks). Several washouts on road up, trails around all rideable. One nasty one after the first downhill where the trail is washed out and eroded where you have to walk a couple hundred yards. Other than that, awesome ride. Here's a pic of a typical washout. Easy enough to get around but would suck to hit in the dark!

Guy clearing trails said he did Boundary last weekend, Little Casio the day before and was going to Big Casino on 7/2 so those trails should be rideable.

Also talked to a lady on the ride up, she and her group had done Elk Mountain the day before. She said they must have crossed 200 trees.......might want to give that one a while.
    I wanna ride!
