    Scammer using Cheyenne Front

The auction has been removed from EBay, but there was a scammer trying to rip people by offering a variety of new bikes through an Ebay auction. The auction told people to not buy through the auction, but contact the scammer directly.

There was a link to website in the ad. Check it out:

    http://www.steve-bicycle.net/

They list their address as : 2250 Etchepare Dr, Cheyenne, WY, 82007. A Mapquest showed that address as being a hotel! Their 800 and 866 numbers picked up and directed you to leave a message. An email got an automated response trying to lead you on.

If it looks too good to be true, it is.

Thank you for pointing this out to me. You just enabled me to amuse myself for days on end. The best things in life truly are free. And are often mean too.

I would like to purchase several of the bikes you offer on your website. In particular, I want to purchase a Specialized Demo 7 II, a Giant Glory DH, and a Kona Stab Supreme. What type of payment do you prefer? I can mail you cash, a check, a money order, or use paypal. Whichever seems best for you...

I hope you will ship bicycles as I am not available to pick them up from your store.

Please let me know about ordering these bicycles as I need them as soon as possible.

    Thanks

    This should be funny...

Please keep us posted on this Trevor, I love these "scam the scammer" projects. Maybe you could photcopy a bunch of bills on a single page as payment. Get the mailing address and then send the photocopy. Make sure you drag it out for a good month or so.

Seems these clowns are up to it again! Yesterday, I came across some smoking deals on Ebay... turned out to be the same folks that were trying to rip folks off under the 'steve's cycling store' name. This time, they're back as 'gerrard's cycling store' name!

    Be careful out there!

Can a moderator move this thread to the General section?

edit: fraudulent listings promptly removed by Ebay.

I surf bikes on Ebay all the time. There is always soem jackass preying on the masses with brand new bikes listed for a doller. You have to contact them off line and then use some random form of payment. I usually request more info them forward the reply to [email protected]. The ebay ID is soon removed.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

Note: I have never seen a scammer on the MTBR classifieds.

I saw a huge discrepancy in their auctions right away! They were advertising the 2006 Giant Trance 1 as an end of year clearance item, but their specs and picture for the ad were clearly the 2007 Trance 1. And they were advertising a 2006 Trance 0, which doesn't even exist. I emailed them about it, just to see what would happen, and I get this response:

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your interest in our bikes. THIS IS A STOCK LIMIT
OFFER!!! We give this discount because we are liquidating the 2006
    stock.

We have all sizes and colors available in stock right now with this
    model.

The buy it now price for the complete bike is listed on our website.
In this price all shipment costs are included. We ship the bike fully
    assembled.

We would like to make a safe transaction and we prefer to use a Third
Party Company (escrow company) to handle this transaction and both to
be protected from fraud. We will support all the fees for a fast
    transaction.

If you decide to buy it now, please email us imediately with THE
MODEL, SIZE AND COLOR and we will give you more details.

You can check our website at www.gerrardsbikes.net

We look forward for your reply,

    Gerrard's Cycle Store

It was just listed as Gerrard's Cycle Store under DVD Players!. I did some snooping cause it seem too good to be true. I checked the Cannondale site and could not find a dealer in WY and nothing with that name. I tried searching on the user name the ebay account etc. Finally I searched on the 800 number and I found this post. Thanks...

    Persistent scammer!!!

    http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZralf_07QQhtZ-1

Ebay's security dept seems to respond fairly well, but even with these ads being posted for a short time until they're taken down, unsuspecting folks are falling for this trap. The scammer posts these ads under a different user name each time.

edit: fraudulent listings promptly removed by Ebay.

    almost taken

this guy hit ebay again this past week. I almost got as far as sending him a money gram, but upon further research, realized that this business did not exsist. Isn't there anyone we can report this guy to. Please let me know.

Ebay takes care of scam auctions if you report them. I'm pretty sure there's scam report links on their site.

I think he meant someone with the authority to arrest this guy. I'm thinking of calling Walker, Texas Ranger to come roundhouse kick his ass back in time.
