    Save the Lionhead

Comments on the updated Custer-Gallatin National Forest travel plan are due by March 5. Of most interest to mountain bikers is that the current draft calls for banning mountain bikes in the RWA that includes Sheep Creek and Coffin Creek. For now the CDT is out of the RWA, but wilderness groups are pushing for its inclusion.

There's a good discussion in the TGR forum here:

Lots of links there to resources to help you craft your letter. Let the powers that be know that you want to keep mountain bike access in this alpine gem. Thanks.

Already sent the e-mail. Mile Creek Trail is one of my favorite trails of all time. Great memories, great riding, and great views. I would be devastated if it became the next entry in the long line of losses to wilderness areas, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thank you for posting. Trails built by mountain bikers, helped maintained by mountain bikers and groups that dont show up are pushing for the closure to mountain bikers. This is an area that everyone seems to enjoy and great work between hikers, equestrian and bikers. Thanks again for posting.

Agreed on all points. This is one of the best of the best. It would be a huge loss to lose access to the Mile-Sheep loop as well as other nearby trails. Tell all of your friends to write to the USFS!

Also in the documentation, Line Creek Plateau in the Beartooths is on the list for RWA consideration. It's about the only trail on the plateau that's open to bikes and it should stay that way!

Line Creek has been on my to do list for awhile, I'll write another letter for that, thanks for the heads up. Reminder, March 5 is the deadline.

In addition to advocating for the rides mentioned above, the forest service plan doesn't mention fatbiking. Whether that's a "feature or bug", it's problematic and they should also address trail access for fat bikes...
