Post good deals found in local bike shops

I'm all for buying online when savings are huge, but I do like supporting the little guy. Without getting into a mailorder vs lbs debate, I think it'd serve many well if the good deals found locally are posted in a new thread each time the mood strikes you. It can't hurt. I'll start with the only shops I've been in lately.

Hyde Park Cycle Sports has (had) a pair of medium DeFeet Kneekers for $15. That's pretty darn dirt cheap. Got it immediately. On a related note, they have 3 pair of small DeFeet woolie boolies left for $12 each. Maybe some of the ladies or men sporting small wood would be interested.

And they have 125 gram 1.7-2.5 Continental Light tubes (they are reliable as heck!) with a removable valve stem that lets you put in 2 ounces of Slim or Stan's. A lightweight alternative to the heavier Slime tubes, and they are only $5.95 each. Best mailorder I've seen is $4.99 before $10 shipping!! For me this was the find of the week because I've had more goatheads in the past 2 weeks than the past 10 years; I'm not about to stick in a 280 gram Slime tube.

And Bob's has an OEM XT 760 front derailleur for $27. Fits all frame sizes, and it's a top swing which works with top and bottom pull.

Great thread - I have nothing to add because I suck at scouring for deals other than on the Internet.

Can I start a "wish list" and the wrench's that visit this board can chime in on what they have "in stock"?

Right now I'am in the market for cockpit stuff

    Thomson 30.9 - 410 post

Easton Vice/Havoc 10 degree 70-80mm Stem, Easton DH Carbon Bar

Bikes: Talk to Jon at Custom Cycles about the Dream Bike program via QBP. Have him quote a custom build to your specs. Then try to scrounge together the same build with Internet shopping. I certainly wasn't disappointed on my latest build.
Nobody cares what kind of bike you ride.

I saw a 30.9 (not 100% sure it was a 410) Thomson at Hyde Park. I believe it was msrp. If you have to have it today, that's an option.

Seems a bit premature as DanK is the only guy willing to shop locally.

    You go to LBS's much?

I don't, but if they start serving complimentary beer with each visit maybe I'll change my behavior.

    What LBS's need to do

is to follow the Bob's business model... If they have OEM or closeout stuff, post it on eBay or on their website.. Otherwise, I maybe hit the local shops about once a month, if that...

That's probably the only shop I go to spend mad money at as I know they are price conscious.

Most of my purchases are not impulse buys, but while at Bob's you never know.

Shops that carry inventory at full retail prices are risking that the customer wants/needs the exact item they have decided to stock, a hugh risk.

No shop can stock the whole Thomson line either. To much overhead.

I love Bob's for parts and stuff. I can even send my wife in there to get something, and she's treated as if she knew what she was talking about and is not taken advantage of. Their policy of selling new stuff cheap on ebay for the same price in the store is amazing! And they don't beat you up on installation. This policy must be working, since they moved into their brand new bigger building and continue to grow...

But for personal convenient service and a guy you can sit down and have a beer with after he finishes his work on your bikes at your house, you can't beat Steve the Dirt Dart... And I can't count the number of times he's delivered parts or a fixed bike to my home or office.

hmmm. i guess i must've gone to bob's on an off day. the service was mediocre at best. when i mentioned that i was "shopping" for bikes and what i'd found at the other stores i'd been to, the employee just started talking mad sh!t about the competion! thats great customer service i tell ya! needless to say, i did not make any purchases from bob's that day.

i get the best service from georges in meridian!
i might be going to hell in a bucket, but at least i'm enjoying the ride

Someone someday will need this! Brian out in Eagle has the largest source of integrated IS headsets in both 1 and 1 1/8. $40 is his price. That's on par with mailorder, and you get it today.

I kinda like Bobs business model - buy bikes like KHS, etc and part them out. They always seem to have what you need, whether it be a derailleur, brakeset, fork, etc and they are willing to do some pretty good price matching by looking on the internet right there. I think they should have gottent the Ellsworth dealsership rather than Hyde Park (no offense to Jim at Hyde Park). yeah Bobs is alright

Especially when he gives you free stuff like he's done for me. I don't know that it'd be a good idea to go into any further detail, but I'll just say that he has been a major help to me, and I think he's almost as cool as Chuck Norris. Almost.

George's on State has a table of 50% off items. Not all crap, either.
Conti folding 29 tires and 1 or 2 Specialized 29 tires.
Specialized BG saddles, and what appeared to be a bunch of children or entry level helmets.

    All sales final.

This clothes rack was actually msrp to begin with, not the famed msrp + 10%.

The saddle on my new Epic is a bit on the uncomfortable side so I decided to purchase the same seat that I had on my last bike.

    MSRP $205

    10% back membership
    $10 off member special

    = $110

Say what you want about our LBS's, but they can't match prices like this.

Looks like a nice, well made Selle Italia.
It's good they price matched and that the chainreaction is in England is irrelevant, since online is online.

I've always saved $ on saddles and went with the less expensive versions from wtb or Bontrager. Probably not as light as what you got but comfy

If I went with the "race" versions, Ti. rails, etc, I'm sure the price would be up there.
