Next week: Helena, Bozeman, or Driggs?

Will be able to bike Sept 24-30, and would prefer not to do a bunch of ride and drive days. Then going to sunvalley for Early Oct for 4ish days.

anyone have some feedback on Helena vs Bozeman vs Driggs. I've riden a bit in BZ (bangtail is great) and some time in Driggs ( good riding in bighole) The shuttle in Helena is a nice option, but how is the riding?

traveling solo, looking for longer rides, hoping to camp at the trailheads, and go out to eat. Have both my SS and a 140mm travel full too.

You got more action on TGR and it sounds like your plans are already set. Helena beats the others on riding from town. But the camping options are limited until you get to the outer trails ~30 minutes from downtown. In the surrounding area, BZN and Driggs offer bigger terrain, but there are multiple big mountain epics within 20-60 minutes of Helena: Casey Peak, Muskrat Creek, Thunderbolt Mountain. And the shuttle runs to the CDT on Sunday morning. The Mac Pass section of the CDT is serious rock gnar.

If it's raining, Helena is the best option. Bozeman has clay soil, not sure about Driggs. But yep, Helena camping sucks as you have to leave town to find camping. I recommend hitting up the Continental Divide Trail around Helena, both north and south.
I don't know what trail we're on, but at least it's getting dark

Driggs has a lot of clay areas. It doesn't ride very well when wet around here. There are a few rides that do better than others, but this is overall advice.

If it dries up after Saturday, dirt conditions are going to be PRIMO.
    But you know that.

This is too late for you. But many people say no much camping right in Helena, but I remember an old thread where someone researched, much of the land just outside of town (by the trails) is legal to camp. You just have to check out a map showing what is what.
