    May 5th: Tending Our Foothills

    http://www.cityofboise.org/Departmen...page12231.aspx

I was at the R2R clinic at the store last night and David mentioned that one of the projects would be working over at Castle Rock. I'm sure there will be other areas worked on as well.

I'm *hoping* to make it to this one since I missed out last year.

IIRC....and if anyone associated with R2R wants to correct me please do so....it's working on so-called "social trails". Basically just closing them off or something to that effect. The pic he showed was further below Castle Rock rather than stuff up top.

    EDIT

    ****!!!!!

I'm slated to work a Greeting Shift that Saturday.

Did I mention anything about closing a trail off to mountain bikers??? I'm pretty sure I didn't.

The pic he showed was of a trail that went straight up-and-down. There is a short section of a wooden fence with a closed sign, but people were clearly ignoring it.

Perhaps they are going to grind down those pesky rocks that make riding so difficult.
    Ride the bike.

Just got this from Jerry from an email I sent this morning....

    Nick,
We have a total of 11 different projects scattered throughout the foothills. However, I only have 2 projects with 2 volunteer positions each left. The projects are:

Military Reserve - Handing out free leashes, dog information flyers and mutt mitts
Castle Rock Reserve * Install fence and/or marker and closure posts.

If you are interested in taking one of the four available spaces, you will need to let me know soon because they are going fast. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Yeah, but . . .

if R2R is closing them off, there is a good reason. R2R is not an enemy.

Maybe they are trying to block off an enormous black hole that devours mountain bikers.

"Social trails" are typically trails that people create to avoid obstacles. For example, there are a lot of social trails around the obstacles at Rock Island because Joe Schmoe doesn't know that the trail is the rocks.

Daryl --- the pic of the trail he posted last night was ALREADY CLOSED. There is a fence that goes across it and it has a sign that says "Closed".

Big difference between closing off a trail that is currently open and closing off a trail that is already closed off.
