    Group Rides in CDA

Anyone know about any weekly group mtb rides in the CDA area? Opinions? Spokane would be fine too.

    Thanks

Sounds like something I'd try to attend. Maybe consider a night ride to get out of the recent heat wave? Did a midnight loop on Canfield last night that was a blast. 80 degrees at midnight...

Permanent closing manager at my store on mondays. Wouldn't work for me (unless people want to go after 11).
Don't let me stop y'all from doing that night if it works for ya though... retail means ridiculous hours!

I've been riding Canfield on Monday and Tuesday nights after work, normally up there around 6:00 to 6:30, I'd be game to join the group if I can keep up.

The Vertical Earth group has been up there on Tuesdays but I cant keep up with those guys.

Yep. You drove past me between the upper and lower lot and were getting your gear out as I went through the upper lot. We've run into each other a few times up there, usually on A or 6, I have shaved off my goatee since I saw you last.

Ah, I thought you looked familiar. I haven’t bumped into you on the trail in a while, I’ve been riding mostly east of the parking lot. What’s your normal route (if you have one)?

On the Thread Topic: I’ll be back up next Monday and Tuesday around 6:00ish. I’m probably a good guy to ride with, I’m old and kinda slow, you can take it easy and still look like a pro.

Okay, so tonight that pesky bull moose was on A trail just down from Penn Station. Had the helmet cam running, but it was about 8:20 and not much light. Kinda looks like footage of bigfoot. (Maybe the Zapruder film?)
After watching the video I shot tonight, I came to the conclusion I need to start my rides a little earlier. I see fine with lights but this CountourHD cam doesn't do so good in twilight.
Did my usual 1562 to A trail and up trail 6, then down trail 7 to A trail, down that to Cave and back to the lot.
No worky tomorrow so I'll try to make the 6 o'clock ride this time.

I came upon that (or another) bull moose last week on trail B just east of 9. I reached for my camera, which I must have flipped to video mode as I pull it from my pocket, and caught about 1 second of his butt going into the brush.

If work doesnít hang me up Iíll be there about 6:00, look for the only idiot on the mountain beating himself to death on a 20 year old ridged.

FYI, idahodirt and I met up last night for a ride. I had never bothered to go all the way up to the towers and the upper section of D was certainly worth the extra climb. Thanks for leading and at least I didn’t slow you up much on the downhill.

late to the party, as usual... showed up about 25 after 6. Couple single speeders in parking lot but no-one else. Did my solo loop and went home.
Will try to meet up with you all some time here...

Bummer, we waited tell 6:15 thinking you might show.

Was one of those single speeders the guy with the orange Ibis Tranny? That guy probably started 10 minutes behind me and still beat me to the top by 3 or 4. Nice guy tho, and a sweet bike, we talked at the top, he said it was about 18 lb.

Fun ride yesterday. I nominate All_talk as the local Monday or Tuesday night ride coordinator.

I donít know that I am accepting the nomination but Iíll be up there anyway and happy to have others join in. Funny thing is Iím not local, Iím only in town Monday thru Wednesday for work, but Iím almost always up at Canfield on Monday and Tuesday evenings around 6:00. If you want in post here, PM or just show up, if I know others are coming Iíll hang out tell 10 after or so. We could also shift he start time a bit if it helps accommodate others.

Next week will be an exception; Iíll be in Houston all week for a trade show.

Unless work holds me up I should be at the Canfield upper lot around 6:00pm both Monday and Tuesday. Start time could flex but if we start much later we could be running short on light.

That Bull Moose was in the middle of trail 11 this morning. Just about ran right in to him. Been seeing him up there so much lately, I've christened him Malcolm.
Working til 7 tomorrow, so will probably have to settle for a morning ride... again. I swear i will find a way to make one of these group rides.

I would have went for Maury but you called it first so Malcolm it is.

I didn't see him last night but I didn't go out to 10 or 11 like a normaly do, just did Penn/7 up to the island and back down to A and Cave. Cave gets a little dark and hard to read if it gets to late. With the shorter days coming I think I may start a little earlier next week.

Anyway, I'll be up there at 6:00 tonight.

The days are getting shorter and I'm going to bump my start time up to 5:45pm, unless someone else was planning on 6:00 today?

My new friend Malcolm was his usual "in the middle" self on this morning's ride. This time hiding in the shadows on the last wooded switchback before the top of trail 6. He is less and less afraid of people as we get on towards the late september rut. Today he was licking his lips a little, but didn't display any real aggression.
Older brother works at a zoo and says their bull moose is starting to get frisky.
    1500lbs of frisky... yeesh.
    Be careful out there everybody.

I saw big guy on 1562A last week. Does Malcolm have a rack with a spread of about 3-4 feet??? If not, Malcom may have a brother.

I was glad the bike made a lot of noise through the rocks to announce my presence

    Bear Sighting

I took a short ride in the rain this evening and came across a bear cub at the last switchback on Cave just above the parking lot. We pretty much scared the poop out of each other, he scrambled down into the ravine and I scooted around the turn and skedaddled down to the lot. I heard something else close in the brush above the trail, Iím betting it was brother or mother but I sure wasnít sticking around to figure it out. He was a cute little guy though.

So I think Iíve see just about all the bigger animals up on Canfield at the this point, dear, elk, moose, cougar and now bearÖ am I missing anything?

Wolf.. which i dont think they are that close and that friendly yet.. but I almost hit the moose two weeks ago at about 9 oclock coming down cave.. I had my dual night rider set up on Bright and I think I blinded him for a sec before he crashed down into the brush.. then I met two hikers and there yorkie puppy about 200 yards later that were scared out of there minds aftet they saw the moose and I had to escort them the last mile and a half down cave with my lights.. A waste of a great descent but they were very nice people..

But If I hadnt just sold my AM bike I would try and make it to one of the rides with you guys..

I would like to know about any group rides or riders heading out 09/11 thru 09/13. If no groups, ride suggestions would be great. I will be in CDA looking at houses and am bringing my bicycle from Illinois. Will be riding Boise, McCall, CDA, Sandpoint then Bend,OR (checking on where to live the whole time). My trip got delayed and am hoping the weather and animals cooperate. Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    LL
