Are Grand Targhee (XC trails) typically rideable first week of October?

We are hoping to get one last weekend of riding up at Targhee on Oct. 6-9 (XC trails, not lift-served stuff which I know closes mid-Sep). I know the weather is probably cooling significantly but have many of you ridden up there around this time?

    Whoa, hold the phone...

We're planning on riding at least one day using the lift served the third week of September. I hope it's still open then.

Should still be ride-able in early Oct. if it doesn't snow...

That's day 1 of our visit. Lovely. Plan B then...

Do you know when the lifts at Jackson Hole close?

Edit: JH is already closed. This bike trip is just falling apart.

Forgive me if I'm not really following along, but I'd say at Targhee, ONE day on the lifts should be fine, if you're interested in the XC stuff as well. Of course if you're going just for lifts, disregard.
I'm looking forward to regretting this.......

I was being melodramatic above. We plan to ride the lifts on Sunday then do xc riding the rest of our time there. I'm actually more concerned about the weather and bears than I am about the lifts closing.

Dusting of snow up high today, lots of rain. Weekend forecast looks good though, my guess is conditions will be primo.

So can I confirm that though Targhee is "closed" for the season, we can still ride non-lift served stuff, including the XC trails?

Yup - you can ride the non-lift served stuff till it gets too wet/snowy to ride. In fact, Fall is probably my favorite time to ride up there.

Definitely ski season now. Lower elevation trails riding great though.

Headed south to Moab instead. I can't believe how much snow they got last week! I doubt all of that will melt away (and actually be rideable) before the ski season starts.

A little mud in the lower first couple miles, then perfect all the way to the top. Aspen trail is in great shape. Might try Mill creek tomorrow afternoon if we don't get moisture tonight.
