    Challis/Stanley Biking and Rafting/Floating

I know there is an existing Stanley thread but wanted to ask a few more questions. Heading from Bozeman for the Braun Brothers Reunion in Challis next week. Any recommendations on good XC loops in the Challis/Stanley/Leadore, etc area? Also love a good downhill.

Another question--good sections to float or tube the river? Bringing tubes and my raft. Looking for gentle-class 3.

Also restaurant/bar/bike shop recommendations would be appreciated!

    Thanks guys!!

One of our favorite rides we did 2 weeks ago at Stanley was little casino to big casino (talk about a downhill). Lots of climbing if you loop it aka no shuttle.

Check out bridge Street grill in lower Stanley, grab a table on the deck over the river.
If you ask the waitress nicely, they might make you a sandwich not on the menu.... Brisket on a bun, with bacon, blue cheese, and BBQ sauce. Was freaking amazing.

    Near Leadore

The Yellow Peak Loop just outside of booming downtown Leadore is a sweet back country ride.

An good alternate loop is Middle Fork of Little Timber Creek->Big Timber Creek.

    In Challis

There is a small and steep trail system right above the Braun Bro venue in the Challis Foothills Trails...
    https://www.trailforks.com/region/ch...othills-16124/

Some are not much more than steep game trails. John Henry is newly constructed and fun(not sure if it connected at the top yet). I usually ride Blue Mtn up to the Lombard atv trail then up to Blue View and down from there. Tough climbing but a pretty quick loop.

I imagine chukt and sidehiller1 are buds and ride together, but you should search sidehiller1 's posted threads - he rides all over in the Leadore/Salmon area and has done some great photo journals of his rides.

Would the sunbeam run on the salmon be any fun right now, with your raft?

There are manay runs on the Salmon from Shoup downstream towards Corn Creek. . I bet you'll find something fun.

The Salmon River is still running well above average for this time of year.

This is the current flow at Yankee Fork: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/id/nwis/uv?site_no=13296500

River of No Return Brewpub has surprisingly good brew for Challis.
Challis Lodge and Lounge is a classic small-town-Idaho Lounge (aka Murder Lounge!) and they serve good rib sticking/artery clogging grub. (Almost at the bottom of Main St.)
Shyla's Hideaway is another little bar w/ good burgers. (Almost at the top of Main St.)
otherwise it is the Teacup for quiche etc. (A block above Shyla's)

Be patient w/ their service on Braun wknd.

    No bike shops in Challis.

    East Fork

Fairly close to Challis is the East Fork of the Salmon River and the Big Boulder/Little Boulder aka Frog Lake Loop:

Or an up and back on Livingston Mill Trail is also chunky fun.
