Bangtail Divide ridable on a CX bike?

It's rated as "intermediate" only because it's lengthy, or so says the discussions.

For those in the know, would it make a pleasant day of suffering on the old CX.

I'm just trying to decide which bike to put in the trunk.

    TIA

You could do it but I would plan on getting some flats. It. Is rocky in spots for sure.

When are you going to Bozo, TC? We're planning a ride in the Lionhead on Saturday, Sept 17 if you are in transit. It's sortof on the way, right? And for that one, bring the squish bike.

FYI, Rode Sheep Creek (to the Lake, out and back) 2 weeks ago, and it was in great shape and even more fun than I remembered...

I want to get back down there before the high country gets snowed out, where you riding?

For the OP, you can ride Bangtail with anything, not "that" rocky...

Yo MR- just a Sheep Creek out and back, nothing huge but you're welcome.

I think the climb from Bracket or Stone would be brutal on a CX bike.

I have ridden my CX bike up Olsen Creek Road and then rode the north part of the Divide trail down to Bracket Ck before - I cleaned it and didn't get any flats. There's only one short rocky section that's sketchy.

The real challenge, for me anyway, was the neck pain from looking up during the long downhill.

I won't ride the CX bike on it again. It just wasn't that much fun.

I've also ridden Chestnut Mtn as a loop on my CX bike. That was more enjoyable than Bangtail Divide but still, if my MTB wasn't broken that day I wouldn't have tried it on CX bike.

we've had quite a bit of moisture this last week too, the Stone Creek side of the trail hasn't held up all that good this year. still a blast, but "I want my MTB". Feel free to sing that last line to Dire Straits....

I'll be in BZN on the 17th & 18th, hanging with my dawter on Saturday, riding on Sunday. You sure you and Dan can keep heading north for a meet on Sunday? Especially after you guys bailed on our usual fall meet. <hint/>

re: OP, roger that on all your advice, looks like the only reason to do it is to say you did. Never hurts to ask and my CX has been a go-to bike this year..

I'll ask the hubby, but #1 the Patriots are playing 11am Sunday, and #2 he is a bit stressed with latest project start, which has been full of problems. We are trying to get to Colorado to ride before ISSW and other avalanche meetings, but even that might fall prey to construction headaches- waaah.

    Thanks for asking.

Spent a grand outing on Bangtail Divide on an XC bike. Weather was iffy so I parked at Olsen Ck, rode to Bracket Ck TH, returned to top on Grassy Mountain, rode partway to top of Stone Ck, then got hailed on so I bailed back down Olson Ck. Sadly I missed to moto-free switchbacks on Stone Ck. It was windy as hell. Fantastic views. The trail was intermediate as all get out. Builders should take notes on how to build switchbacks from that trail.

I was disappointed at how hammered the trail was by motos (climbs were more fun than descents) but I got about 25 miles of singletrack in addition to the Olsen Ck access, which was nice.

The hunters siting their rifles kind of rattled my cage... It's that time of year.
