Climbing 40,000 feet in 5 Days on the Hakka MX in Northern Thailand!

Hey everyone! Been wanting to share an adventure my partner and I did in Northern Thailand earlier this year. It is called the Mae Hong Son loop and we did it in 5 days (probably would recommend 7-8 days, 5 was brutal but we had a goal in mind and went for it). It is insanely hilly, it became a running joke that it was all uphill! We did it on our Ibis Hakka MX's and although the entire route was on the pavement, we really enjoyed the uprightness of the geo especially with so much saddle time! The only thing we didn't like too much was our gearing, we prob would want an easier bail out gear from an 11-46 cassette next time! Also we each had no bike touring experience and only brought a bag of stuff (an old shoe bag) and zip tied it to the front end of our bike! Highly recommend this route, amazing views, easy affordable lodging, and super well-paved roads!

We are working on a full write up but not sure where to post that as it is long! But here are some of our favorite pictures from the trip!

Also this was a break down on our route, keep in mind these are Strava metrics that were taken with our phones

Day 1: Chiang Mai to Pai (78.21 miles / 8,992 ft elevation)
Day 2: Pai to Mae Hong Son (66.97 miles / 9,377 ft)
Day 3: Mae Hong Son to Khun Yuam (42.64 miles / 5,699 ft)
Day 4: Khun Yuam to Mae Chaem (62.17 miles / 12,484 ft)
Day 5: Mae Chaem to Chiang Mai (86.17 miles / 9195 ft)

Happy to answer any questions about this route as well! Like I said full write up is done, just don't know where to post it as it is pretty long!

I used to live in Chiang Mai. Only ever did MHS on motorbikes. Saw snow(!) in Pai once! Nice ride.
