170 mm fork on an Ibis Tranny 26b. How bad of an idea?

Thought it was just 140mm x fusion velvet that can do 650b 1 1/8 straight steerer, but 170 mm vengeance hlr coil also works. Currently running singlespeed 140mm 26b with aggressive wheels/brakes/tires and dropper post.

Slacker head angle and stiffer stanchions sounds nice, but will climbing or handling be awful? I'm only 150 lbs and not taking huge jumps like Lopes so is it like a 1% chance frame breaks at some point or only a matter of time sort of deal? (I know it's 120 max officially)

Also, need to figure out if standard chris king 15 mm front hub can convert up to 20mm.

I also like the appeal of having a bike that can handle rowdy terrain, but is really light for when you're carrying a bike up a mountain (160mm aluminum canfield balance is annoying to hike up).

Very bad idea... don't do it. If you don't like having teeth then go for it, but climbing will be a pig on a 170 fork.

You can only convert a Chris King LD (large diameter) hub to 20mm thru axle. If you're not sure of whether its and LD or SD hub post a pic and someone will confirm.

Ok. I'll get a photo of the hub.

I quite like having my teeth as it turns out. I don't have an issue climbing with 140 mm now. Maybe lowered to 150 or 160? I would definitely feel the stiffer stanchions, but I wouldn't do it just to run it at 140mm.

I always try to make my bikes look sexy... maybe I have gone too far since Imgur thinks the hub may be an erotic image. 😂

Didn't see it see LD or SD on hub. Anyone know which it is?

That's an SD (Standard Diameter) hub. You're stuck with 15mm.
