September is one of the warmest months of the year and Kaanapali is one of the warmest areas. Xterra worlds is nearby in late October so there will be a lot of enthusiasm for that and the bike course should be popular. Get in touch with West Maui Cycles, the local shop on that side, there's lots of trails, mostly moto, nothing is marked, technically private land, so you will either be exploring or need some guidance.

Thanks for that info. Would you say, it's just to hot that time of year to go riding? I'm in So. Cal. And for me when it gets into the 90s, it's to hot.

Hawaii thankfully has trade winds to keep it tolerable. If the trail is under cover it's usually not so bad. If you're out in the open and its full sun midday then it's gonna pretty toasty.

It doesn't look like any of the bike shops in that area have anything good to rent as far as MTBs go.

Side trip to Poli Poli or Makawao Forest? Plenty of shops in Kahului/Paia/Makawao to choose from.

The irony of your request is laughable, Mountain Cycle. A few weeks ago I gave you a negative ding to try to nudge you back on track after seeing an increasing amount of childish personal attacks coming from you on a thread that I otherwise thought you actually had some relatively good info to share. What was I f**8ing thinking? A few days later you retaliate with this gem:

What's the riding like in the Kaanapali area during mid September?-screen-shot-2015-03-14-9.27.57-am.jpg

Now I could give a rat’s ass about the neg rep, but what is that second sentence? Your idea of a threat? You’re gonna see me on Maui?

The irony of course, is that you gave me negative rep for a post that merely contained a photo from a ride....taken in the mountains above Ka’anapali....the very place you now seek advice about.

Here’s my advice: It appears you have the emotional wherewithal of a 12 year old. You can’t handle the trails above Ka’anapali in September. It’s a dangerous place for someone like you. It’s hot, steep, there’s no one around to help you when you fall down, and the smoke from the burning bridge is gonna sting your eyes. Better to stick to snorkeling.

I'm sorry you took that as a threat. I certainly didn't mean it that way. It was just my way way of saying that I was coming to your area. What thread are you talking about?

    I guess I should’ve considered it a warning then.

The thread was “Wide rims? Don’t believe the hype...”

It wasn't even a warning. and yes the discussion there has been pretty heated at times by a lot of people.

Will be on Maui June 25 thru July 2nd. Would like to mtb or road ride a few days, so will be hitting up these bike shops. Thanks for the info. May hunt for the Xterra course as I'm staying on that side of the island.

If anyone is available to meet up, please PM me!
