Mary: lightweight stem with stock Mary bars? Recommendation

    Hey folks:

Loving my Mary SS. The stock Salsa stem seems very heavy. Wanted to lighten that load some. Anyone change that stem out to a lighter version? Or, any recommendations at all? I like the stock Mary bars and want to keep them.

I thank you in advance for your response(s).

Can't go wrong with Ritchey WCS or Ritchey Superlogic!

Thanks Jill - read a lot of your posts - all very helpful.

Btw, if you're still viewing - I'm trying to find what the sweep is on my stock Mary bars - can you advise?

    No problem!

Honestly, if you want to lighten up your Mary (or any bike for that matter), personally I'd go for areas that give you the most bang for your buck. Wheels and tires are a great place to start since it's rotating weight...this is even more important for 29ers. I am using American Classics on my Mary SS and love them. I also use a carbon rigid fork on the bike which helped to drop a little more weight...plus I just like the way carbon forks ride. They provide just enough deflection to help dampen the vibrations.

The On-One Mary bars have a 40-degree sweep on them.

Thanks Jill. I know, I'm considering Stans Tubeless but am taking it one step at a time. I'm having a White Brother's Rock Solid put on this weekend. I think that's enough $ for this month. LOL. Just considering a stem....

    I appreciate the recommendations!

    Sweet! Post up some pics!

I have a Ritchey WCS stem and a set of Ritchey Superlogic carbon 10-degree sweep bars on my Mary right now. The bars are quite a bit narrower than the On-One Mary bars are, but I like how it makes the bike handle. Since 29ers tend to handle a little slower than 26" wheel bikes, the narrow bars make up for that. Feels like a little slot car!

Thanks Jill - I'll be sure to post a picture.

Again, appreciate the recommendation on the stem/bar.
