There is a second section south of Medora that goes some 40+ miles to the burningn coal vein area... I have seen news articles from 2009 that say stuff like "the trail will be finished this summer". I haven't been able to find any real beta on it past that.

It is finished. We went down there a few weeks ago and the owner of dakota cyclery suggested that we ride it. We already had our agenda on where we were going but she said it was a real good ride.

So, did some poking around. It had rained the night before and the clay was pretty snotty. We took off from the Bully Golf Course and only went maybe 1/2 mile before we could tell it was just too wet. So we wandered roads for an hour or two and ended up where the MDH Deuce crosses East River Rd about 8 miles (by trail) from the GC. It had dried enough that we could make our way back to the GC but still had to walk some sections. Great trail with amazing layout. The people who have put work into the MDH one and two really have given us a gift. Some of the trail is grassland trekking from post to post but is super rideable.

    The Deuce is NOT finished!!!!

I went out to conquer the 40 some miles of the MDH2 with some buddies last week. We left from the Bully Pulpit trailhead and headed south with a support truck meeting us at all the road crossings. The first 10 miles were great and with only a few spots where the trail was a bit difficult to follow. But then the "trail" turned into more of a connect the dots style of ride as we plowed our own trail through the prairie grass from post to post. We pushed on for a total of 30 miles with the hopes it would get better, but it only got worse. Once we passed a pile of about 15 uninstalled trail posts we called it quits and headed for the road. Bottom line, the Maah Daah Hey II is far from being done but the northern most 8-10 miles are a great ride. Watch out for rattle snakes though! We had to pass by two of them right in the tall grass on the side of the trail.

    Let the journey continue!
