    Freeride/downhill in South Dakota?

I'm planning a spring getaway and I've always wanted to get out to South Dakota to see the Badlands. Is there any freeride or downhill riding in the area? Northshore type stunts would be awesome. Ideally I'd like to find something close to BLM land so that I could camp for free. What kind of temperatures should I expect around the end of March and beginning of April?

It's in the baby phases, but it's here bro.... I'm on the OTHER side of the state, where we're few and proud, but all we have is big, dumb stunts. The trails are in the Hills. Contact Sparrow. I'm sure he'll chirp in here anyway....
Let us know when, I'll bring the posse. There's some underground stuff around there, too....

Is this area at all near Spearfish or the Black Hills in general. I have done some riding in BHills outside Spearfish. Always up for new spots and riding with new peeps.

Terry Peak is having a DH competition March 26.
Don't know what they will do if there is still snow. I'm a snowboarder too.

funny.... a ski race the day before the mtb dual slolom race (not a d/h race according to the site btw) should make for some interesting conditions or a very confused weatherman. either way, im there! for those of you that have done this race before, what should i be preparing for? 4"? 5" 6" bike? ive never ridden there so its all new to me. thanx for the post fish. im a transplant to the midwest and in jonesin bad for some bigger runs.

Not any of that type of riding in the Badlands. But in the Rapid City area you should find what you are after. Lots of trails minutes from town. Lots of Forest Service to pitch a tent on, no campfires though, it is dry out here. As for March/April? That can be our wetest and/or snowiest time of year. Been dry all winter, I suspect we get a wet 2 foot snow around that time. But, our weather is volatile, you never know. Swing by ACME bikes on the west side of town for official disinformation.

    I resemble that statement.
