    Failing HRM

My HRM on my Garmin Edge 500 is incredibly inconsistent and sometimes not working at all. I believe I've read on here that the straps need replacement after a while. Is that likely my issue (it's about 6 years old), and can I just get a new strap and not bother to buy the new sending unit that snaps onto it?

    Thanks in advance.

I found with older straps, that they lasted 6m to a year at the most (for me) went through a bunch, My current, i dont think the newest, but 2nd newest? has been going for a few years now, and still works.
But yeah, you just buy a new strap and pop the sender unit onto it. Can buy a Garmin one, or a cheapo one from ebay for under $10, they work about as well as the old one, maybe grab a few.
All the gear and no idea.

My old plastic Garmin (non-deluxe) strap is still working fine after 10 years. It predates the type where the module snaps onto the elastic strap, which has been problematic. It was the snaps and strap that were the problem, not the module that snaps onto the strap. Sometimes washing the strap in soap and water and cleaning off the snaps well can help. Have you tried a new strap with your module?

I don't think you can get the original plastic type like I have anymore so that's kinda moot.
    What, me worry?
