Trance Upgrading SLX 11speed -> SRAM GX Eagle

    Hi good folks,

Midway through an upgrade from SLX on my 2018 Trance 2 to SRAM GX Eagle. I've replaced the free hub with an XD driver, swapped the derailleur hanger and the back end is good.

What I'm looking for is confirmation of which crank/BB to get. I'm guessing that it may well be a boost crank as that's what the 2018 Trance 1 uses (comes with GX Eagle fitted). But also which bottom bracket to use?

    Thoughts?

    Cheers, Splodge

You can likely use your cranks, the tooth pattern is pretty generic (except for Shimano 12 speed). Some companies make chainrings for common bolt patterns/cranks with the SRAM Eagle pattern. If you do want to switch to SRAM cranks, you just need to match the BB and crank, then make sure the BB matches your bottom bracket. I believe the Trance has a BB92, so you could get a BB92 DUB BB and a DUB crank with a 3mm offset SRAM direct mount chainring (3mm = boost, 6mm = non-boost, the cranks themselves are the same between boost and non-boost). Or you could get the older GXP standard, so you'd get a BB92 GXP BB, GXP crank, and 3mm chainring.

Thanks ace - I have tried the SRAM 12speed chain on my SLX cranks (trying to be a cheap skate!) and it didn't sit down on the chainring at all hence going for the SRAM cranks+chainring...

Nice option on the GXP cranks too. Love having options!

There's no boost crank, it's just the chain ring.
If you get Sram cranks, go for dub, it's lighter and better overall. You can get these pretty cheap (GX or Truvativ Descendant 6k or 7k doesn't matter, they're pretty light and solid).
Alternatively, just get the chainring for your Shimano cranks from aliexpress.

Don't forget the chain too. Go for X01 or XX1, they're so much better than GX and lower models and last very, very long (around 3x as long as other chains).
