To tell the truth the Bulldogs that come on the Trance aren't the greatest, but by no means are they totally horrible. Tyre choice really depends on where you live and the conditions of the trails you ride - , clay, sand, gravel, slick-rock, loose, hardpacked, wet etc .- so it's hard to recomend a tyre. Personally I ordered some of the KENDA Nevegals and they really are a nice tyre that work very weel, but can be a bit slow rolling on tarmac. Wouldn't recomend getting anything under the 2.1" version and would recomend the DTC compound.

As for max tyre size for the Trance, so far the biggest I've run are 2.4" and in the dry they're fine, however in the wet you might get clogged up rather quickly.

I have Nokian NBX 2.3's, which complement the bike nicely.

I got the Kenda Nevegal 2.1 Stick-E version. I'll be converting them over to no tubes once the weather dry up a bit.. I love to climb and need xtra traction on some loose single track and they seem like the right tire to use.
