    Squeaky seat post on Rainier
I have a stock standard 03 Rainier which i ride mainly on bike tracks and some road. After a while in the saddle an annoying (read REAL annoying) squeaking comes from the seat/post...  Any solutions on how to fix this??

    Cheers

Why not try KY gel, after extensive testing, I am convinced this will do the trick, hell it fixes all my problems.

    Seatpost & Shim
I`m not sure if the Rainier uses the seatpost shim as the Giant VT, NRS and XTC do, but if it does heres a temporary fix i used on my VT---
    Remove seatpost, then remove shim.
Thoroughly clean seatpost and shim and make sure all grease and dirt etc is removed.
Clean inside seattube with a rag.
Relube shim and seatpost with grease, then re-assemble.
I found this seemed to help for a few rides before the creak returned.

    Permanent fix---
Ditch the seatpost shim and fit the appropriate sized Thomson seatpost.....works a dream on a VT and after this fix i havent heard a creak :)
Not to mention the nice weight saving :)
    Cheers

ok....thanx 4 the advice ;) ...the Rainier doesn't use a seatpost shim but i'll do the greasing up bit anyway and see what happens. After that i suppose I'll try an increased sized diameter seat post, though i was warned that if i did this i might split the tubing where the seat pole is inserted

    cheers

I`d be very wary about going to a larger diameter seatpost....it certainly may well end up splitting the tubing......another possibility would be to try an alternative seat collar and see how this goes.
The Salsa Liplocks are around 16mm wide and provide a very good grip.
