New question here. NRS Headset Maintenace

Help!!!! I know this should be easy but I can't get the headset bearings out of my NRS2 (2004) to clean and re-grease them. What's the secret?

it should be really easy. On my 03 NRS I just take off the fork and lightly pull out the cartridge bearings. Just clean off the drit and re-grease them. Pretty simple.

yeah, mine comes out super easy. just take off the fork/stem, then take off the cap on top and take out the cartridge bearings. Mine is the oem FSA btw, but even though I've had no probs w/ it, I'm looking at upgrading to the Cane Creek ZS-6.

When I've taken the fork and stem off there is a ring about 2mm thick that seems to be holding top and bottom bearings in place. It's this that I can't get off. Does it need brute force or does it unscrew?

Is that the cover for the headset? If thats the case then it should slide off with a little force. On mine the cover needs to be slid off sometimes. The bottom ring should be the crown race. If there's a slit in it then thats it, also should be easy to slide off. Try tuning (CCW?) the rings and see if it does slide off, it might take some force but be careful not to break it. It could be that its new and just needs to be worked on.
