    Novice needs 1x advice

    Hi all,
    a fairly new rider here on a 2017 Trance 3 (new as in i got no idea), im loving the bike right now but not the 2x10 setup. Which would be the best "bang for buck" way to get either a 1x11 or 1x12 setup?

    I was hoping the new sram nx eagle groupset would be the way to go but apparently i need new wheels for that according to my lbs guy.

    Anyway, so what would be the best way to go? And do i need to replace my wheels?

    Sorry for the noobness

    Cheers
    Jim

    your "lbs guy" is either lying or incompetent or he just doesn't know what he doesn't know.

    Take matters into your own hands. Even as a novice reading the Sram NX eagle press release and numerous reviews should be doable, because they'll all tell you that the new 12speed 11-50 cassette works with a Shimano freehub (which you got)

    This is the thing that confuses me, when i check my bike specs all i can find is that the hubs are "giant performance tracker disc, 28h" and i have no idea what it means.

    Thanks for the response btw.

    Look at it this way, an NX Eagle cassette will work with your 10 speed free hub.
    Almost = Didn't

    The higher end SRAM cassettes (GX on up) require the XD driver on your hub. That would technically require a new hub, practically speaking a new wheel. The NX does not.

    I wouldn't waste my money on NX. Still costs more than 11 speed shimano stuff and shimano slx/xt is better performing. Paying a lot more for 4 extra teeth on the cassette IMHO.

    maybe that's a common strategy for stores in north America to boost their sales. Actually some stores in Europe are equally phoney, they'll literally [email protected]# you over if you don't have a clue

    I would recommend 11 spd SLX shifter, cassette, chain and a Wolftooth narrow wide chainring.
