    Giant XTC1 brake update

    Hello Guys,

    New member here.
Iím from Budapest, Hungary, and own a 2010 Giant Xtc1.

I gave up riding a couple years ago, mainly because of work and a shitty front brake on my bike: Avid Elixir 5. Iíve had the brakes bled like 5 times, internals replaced, bled a couple times more and theyíre still shit.

Iíd like to return to more riding this spring, and want to change to Shimano.

Can You pls pls. advise which Shimano brakes I should pick, and whether Iíd need to change the rotor as well, or are Shimano brakes compatible with Avid rotors? Any other parts to buy to make it work? (Washers, adaptors, etc).

    Thanks:

    Dave

Shimano brakes are compatible with other brands of rotors. I use the Shimano XT brakes. I have a set from 2010 m765 that have been flawless, which have been on multiple bikes. and I just put the Shimano xt m8000 on my newer XTC. These are on my newest bike.

Here is a pic of mine with sram/avid centerline rotor. Enjoy the new brakes.

If you're at all interested in budget, Shimano SLX are every bit as good as XT, but cheaper.

I found my xt new on ebay for cheap but not sure if there are deals like that in Hungary. I dont have experience with slx but I'm sure they're great. I've heard good things about deore too.

Iíve checked Ebay, there are pretty good deals in Hungary as well. currently thinking about getting front & rear, the complete set for ~$185.
