    BB shim spacing...........

    '05 Reign 2

Mine has four shims. Two on the spindle outboard the bearings, and two that go between the BB shell and x type cups.

Anybodies BB still stock- how are your shims organized?

I think all the ones on mine were on the drive side.
    That help?

What make and model is your crankset? In any case, all four spacers on one side doesn't sound good.

The same as everybody else's who bought an '05 Reign 2.

What works doesn't necessarily always sound good.

I see ... my bad ... I thought the reason for your post was because you needed help with the correct BB/crankset setup ... apparently the kind of help you need is different.

OK, I'll concede that Reigns not sold in NA might have been offered w/different components.

If anyone out there in cyberland has an '05 Reign 2 w/RaceFace Evolve XC cranks and x type bb - still set up as stock - how are your bb/spindle shims situated.

    Thanks in advance.................

Different bb shell widths and the model dérailleur spec'ed by a manufacturer require different shim configurations.

Not as stupid as tungsten's comments! If he can read, he obviously doesn't understand.

I understand your being obstreperous isn't at all helpful.

If you don't own an '05 Reign 2 and can't eyeball it to tell me how the bb is shimmed, you're not going to be of any help and should probably just move along, there's nothing to see here...................

Easy there beaver boy! Obstreperous?!? I almost shat my breeches ... didn't think they used this kind of fancy language over there in the colonies (no disrespect meant to the other Canadians reading this).

Anyways, you are one shim short of a full crankset ... seriously!

I'm kinda lost with these questions as well.

Most BB's these days come in a 73 x 113 sizing. If your BB shell (i.e. the reign) is 68 x 113, then you have to shim between the bearing cups and the BB shell to give the proper spacing so your cranks can tighten down properly.

How many spacers/shims is dependent on A. the BB/crankset you have and B. the size of the spacers. As a result, these are more related to your BB/crankset than it is related to the reign. My cranks (Truvativ Stylo's) likely have a different setup than yours.

As for spacers outside of the bearings (i.e. between the bearings and crankset), I have no idea why you'd have those in there.

    Cheers,
    EB

The BB / crankset in question uses shims to preload the bearings for anyone wondering.

Sorry Tungsten , my Reign came wth that setup but I ditched it almost immediately for Stylos , so I'm no help to you either !

Quite a kerfuffel over a simple question though..............geez

With this crankset you can adjust the chainline in 1mm increments depending on where the spacers between the cranks and BB are installed. There is also a red spacer that is always installed on the drive side crankarm. The spacers between the BB and BB shell depend on the shell width as previously stated. There are also two different thickness elastomers that preload the bearings as well as an optional spacer to help adjust the preload force. Thickness/spacers used for preload will depend on the shell width which can have slight variances. Look at this file it's not too complicated:

    http://www.raceface.com/tech/inst/Ev...asCrankset.pdf

Your description suggests a setup for a 68mm wide shell and a 50mm chainline if you have both black spacers and the red spacer on your drive side crankarm.
