2018 Pike with + boost conversion (OR) 2017 Pike 100mm-which one for my Anthem?

    Hey guys,

Ive decided to upgrade my 2016 Giant Anthem Advanced SX, Revelation RL, 120mm fork to a 130mm Pike. All the 2018 Rockshox Pike forks are boost. Would it be better to buy a 2018 Pike with boost, boost conversion kit, over a 2017 Pike 100mm? I know the 2018 weights 150 grams less, but I lose some if not all with the conversion. Also I don't gain the main advantage of boost, stiffness, with the conversion. I'm leaning towards the 2017 non-boost. What do you think?

Ive decided to pick up the older version, non-boost version of the 130mm Pike RCT3 later today. Do you guys suggest upgrading to a better rear shock too? Thanks!

A recommendation for putting a 130 mm Pike and a better shock on a 2016 Anthem Advanced would be to sell it and buy a closeout 2017 Advanced SX: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2245864/

Have to agree with mbr4527 here, seems like a waste of money. Better off getting the newer 17/18 bikes which frames have been designed for a longer travel fork/shock.

I'm currently riding the same Anthem as you, love the bike and will probably ride it for another 2 years before I look at getting something new. Only changes I have made to it was swapping out the saddle, stem and bars.

I disagree! I purchased and installed the Pike 130mm RCT3 yesterday for a price of $550 plus tax. The bike's geometry and weight feel the same but after a short one hour ride, the difference in smoother ride with more travel was totally worth it! My old Revelation is up for sale at $275 with multiple interested parties. Once it sells the the upgrade will have cost me around $300. I'd say, totally worth it specially considering my bike came with higher end Sram drivetrain and carbon wheels over the 2017 model. And I only paid $4K out the door, new, for my bike.
