    2017 Trance 3 - 1x10 conversion

    Hi all,

Can anyone advise if the Deore rear mech on the 2017 Trance 3 will be ok running a 11-42 cassette?

Also as the bike is boost, do I need a boost specific front N/W for a 1x conversion? Sorry for the questions but I haven't had a bike with boost before.

the spec doesn't list the rear mech model but it looks like the sgs model since the bike comes with an 11-36 cassette. i'd think it would be fine with the 11-42 as its total capacity is listed as 43t. the only thing i'm not sure about is the top pulley clearing the 42t cog and whether the b-tension would be long enough to help. yes you will need a boost specific ring as the offset is different between boost and non boost.

just get a medium cage, let the air out of the shock and compress the rear suspension.
run the chain through the system on the largest rear cog and around the chainring.
Take up all the slack from the rear mech and cut the chain at that point.

    this should suffice

I run a short cage zee on a 11x36 so the medium should be ok for 42. Any larger than 42 I would choose a long cage rear mech. and that link offers both medium and long.

Why get a med cage when op most likely has a long already given a 3x. Only reason for a new der is if the stock one isn't a clutch type.
Wait whuuut, who did he tell you that!?!?....

So as long as itís clutch type I should be ok? Just wasnít sure if it would clear the 11-42 cassette.

If it's a Deore rr der it should work fine. You could also just get an 11/40t cassette to be sure and adjust what size front ring size to get the same net granny gear.

if you're gonna change the rear derailleur / cassette / chainring.... you may as well go 1x11 checkout chainreactions groupset kits.... 1x11 works way better than 1x10

you can get a SLX Shifter/Derailleur/Crankset/cassette/Chain for $224
