    warranty question

this morning, i discovered a crack at the seat tube/tube tube junction of my schwinn fastback cx cyclocross bike. performance bike told me that schwinn will very likely warranty this frame, since it had obviously not been crashed or abused and that i am well within the warranty period.

here's the best part--schwinn has not sold a cross bike since '07. are they going to try and send me a road frame?

    ???

That's a good question that would be better answered by your Science teacher

I know it's a far fetched idea; but have you tried calling them?

I'm sure your right since it was so long ago but still wouldn't hurt to ask them directly.

Tipical "pawn off to someone else" responce.
    I hate that.
The dealer is only going to turn around and call the exact same dude with the exact same question.
Why cant they just save you the hasel and answer one simple question?

I think a few Bianchi MTB owners are/have been going to the same ordeal. Interested to find what Schwinn's going to do.

I busted a GT Zaskar frame right about the time GT and Schwinn were being aquired by Pacific. It took a while and Pacific wasn't able to fine me a Zaskar frame so they gave me a Mongoose Pro Titanium road frame as a warranty replacement. This all happened around 2001-2002 and I built the Ti frame up with an Ultegra gruppo and I'm still riding it...love that bike actually.

To answer your Q about what Schwinn might give you....it could be anything!

i just got done talking to schwinn...btw, their warranty department DOES NOT like talking to consumers...they told me it might be another brand...ok with me, so long as it's a cross frame with cantilever bosses.

now the question is who now owns schwinn? what other brands do they sell? and do any of those brands sell a similar cross frame?

    uh oh...

Because the dealer can evaluate the damage fairly.

The shop is Schwinn's client, not you. Part of the shop handling their line is managing all of the over-the-counter contact. You went around the shop and directly to Schwinn because the shop didn't move as fast as you wanted. That's not Schwinn's fault.

mike, how do you know what i did? that's one reason i rarely visit MTBR is because of guys like you who think they know EVERYTHING.

i called schwinn first. they told me to go to the shop. i went to the shop. shop didn't know what schwinn would replace the frame with so i called schwinn again to find out and they told me it would be replaced with a similar frame from another brand if they don't have what i've cracked in stock.

WHO SAID ANYTHING IS SCHWINN'S FAULT, A$$HOLE?

shut the f*ck up if you don't know the story behind somebody's post.

update: the shop called today and they have sent me a WHOLE NEW bike, not just a frame.

it's GT's cross bike, more details later.

hooray for performance bike and whatever company owns schwinn.
