    Shimano XT Freehub Issue

I have a brand new Shimano XT FH-M8110-B freehub that goes completely silent. It's as if the ratchet stops working. I've never experienced this. Has anyone else? A link to a video showing the behavior is below:

    Thanks!

Yes it is normal. The face ratchets can disengage when coasting and reengage when pedaling. It is similar to the Scylence feature they were going to release, but it is not completely silent.

    Does it work or not?

It does seem to work okay. However, the ratchet constantly disengages and reengages as I'm coasting. It's a really annoying sound.

is that one of the new Scylence hubs?

that would drive me insane too. I don't think it's supposed to engage and disengagerandomly like that.

You could add some lube to the ratchet, but that is how they are designed to operate. Be very careful about where you apply grease, as thhis is a completely new design

That's how it works and has been discussed on mtbr multiple times since this freehub design first hit the market around a year ago.

After several hundred miles I can say that this is the worst sounding hub that I've ever owned.
