    Post ride bonk

Last night, I had a good ride. A little over 22 miles on a fairly tame trail. I ate less than normal and I skipped out on my Sport Legs supplement.

So I finish the ride just fine. Still feeling good. Feel fine on the drive home. Then, about 30-40 minutes after finishing my ride... it hit me. I felt sick. Had to force food down. Achy.

I showered and went to bed. Still felt like crap. Slept fitfully until about 2:30. I was hungry. So I went downstairs and ate about a pint of ice cream. That seemed to do the trick. I slept hard until the alarm went off.

    Anyone else have this experience?

Never on my mountain bike but when I bought my road bike, I began hitting it pretty hard. One day, after a ride, I came home and thought the floor looked mighty comfortable.

About twenty minutes later my wife woke me up by shouting, "Are you all right!" She had walked into the bedroom and saw me passed out/sleeping on the floor.

    New question here.

Are you getting enough beer post ride?

Was it hydration? I find I feel like crap just after a ride if I was borderline for water at the end of a ride.
Yes its retro but IT WORKS!

It can be a number of things, so I doubt you'll get a true answer on this, buuuuutttttt...

The ice cream helping out is an indicator that you probably needed some sugar in your system. Hydration is important, but straight water (especially if you've sweated a lot) won't completely solve the problem.

I always have to see clients in the evening, so after a ride, a good meal and a shot of strong coffee brings me back to life to go out and work.

I bet this is part of it. At least the eating part - if Sport Legs doesn't have calories, I'm skeptical that it does anything. But whatever.

22 miles off-road is a fair amount. For me, on most of my trails, that would be in the 2-3 hour range, maybe 4 on something difficult. (What a range! We need a new unit of measurement for MTB...) Do you eat during your rides? I try to. I also started putting gatorade in my water recently, and that helps too.

I have a snack waiting for me in my car for when I finish. Usually PB&J. Cheaper and tastier than a bar.

Finally, if you have time for a nap, go with it.

Doesn't really sound like bonk (depletion of blood glucose). Sounds like heat exhaustion and/or dehydration.

Did you have a headache ? Fatigue ? High heart rate ?

Just be glad you didn't bonk 10 miles from the car. Happened to me once, and I found some campers and bummed some graham crackers. Got me back to the car !

I bonked at the a$$ end of a 200k rando. I didn't eat breakfast, dinner the night before was not enough for the amount of riding I did that day. Skipped lunch the day before as well. Topped it of with almost no water. Ate a peanut butter cup and some powerade and made it to the end. then gorged like a pig.

Hammer time - literally..........I use hammer gel & endurolytes (water-based electrolyte pills) while riding - if its a long ride, perpetuem that contains fat and protein.......rides over two hours require extra supplements because your body starts consuming itself and you need to replace whats being lost.......that's one reason why you prolly bonked hard and these things do help a tremendous amount........
