    Maxis Tire Bags?

I just replaced my worn out WTB Bridgers at 3.0x27.5 with a Maxis Minion and a Maxis Recon at 2.8x27.5. To my surprise, the maxis tires came in a fancy fabric bag with one side mesh and the other side fabric. I would expect this bag to add $10 or so to some already expensive tires. What possible benefit is there over a folded cardboard sleeve?

So, what do you do with your Maxis bags? Mine will become his and hers laundry bags in the camper.

Wow, first time I heard of this. Did those bags come with the Maxxis logo as well? My suspicion now is that this is plus tires only, as my last Maxxis purchase a couple of months ago (from bike24) did not have hose bags, and the tires were standard sized ones.

My wife stores bananas in my Maxxis bag in the kitchen, it's really good for keeping the fruit flies out lol. And yes this bag came with a 2.8 plus tire. With side knobs so tasty they have to cover them with a bag to keep the insects from eating them...

I was surprised when I got my Rekons a couple years ago and they came in the bags, really nice quality too. I have knee pads and some other stuff in them or use them for dirty/extra clothes after a ride.

At least you can use those bags for something versus throwing away a cardboard sleeve.

All the money MAXXIS had made on us and they pass on a little bonus and weíre complaining about it. I doubt the tire prices would be lower or go down if they started with or now switched to cardboard. Another thing to whine about on mtbr I suppose.

How many you want? Mine go strait in the trash.

Kind of a waste, at least cardboard packaging can be recycled. Although plus and fat tires are kind of hard to package.

Does Continental still do super fancy catalogs? They used to be textbook quality which always struck me as completely unnecessary. At least the Maxxis sling bag is a useful item.

I've made kits with certain things I prefer to have in my truck but not on my person when I am riding. Certain tools, extra tubes, shock pump, etc. Makes it super easy to grab and throw in the truck when I am headed for a ride.

So I like them and was glad some of the tires I bought came in them.

You know, all you guys should just build a 29+ hardtail. It's the perfect excuse. "Honey, I need to build this bike so I can get two of these sweet Maxxis bags." It can't miss. Plus, you get a sweet new bike! (I recommend a Krampus)

    Hmmm...

    HMMM...

    ***off topic alert***

Coincidentally, I was eying up a Krampus at my LBS last night. I am not happy with the industry trend to go with an NX drivetrain and Level brakes. It's everywhere. Including the Krampus. I just paid a small fortune to strip and rebuild the hardtail I bought that came with that exact same spec.

It's like they drag the frames through the SRAM factory with a shit magnet attached.

Off topic I know, but the two post-2015 trends that are most disturbing to me are significantly heavier frame weights, and this NX/Level shit that seems to be hanging off every bike produced these days.

Many heard of the change coming and hoarded piles of bags to be used for future mtb tires to be stored in. I suspect Cleared2Land may have been one of those.

    lol no

Maxxis makes a mediocre rider like me feel like I know what I'm doing when I don't.

Allow me to give you an example. 1st time down this one trail last Sunday, on Strava marked as hazardous. 10% decline. And almost all of it is a giant rock garden. After it rained and is still muddy. Now...a couple years ago on a skinnier non-Maxxis tire I probably would have crashed a few times. With the Maxxis 26 x 2.8, I finished in the top 41% on time, no crashes, and it was so fun and easy!!! Why? The front tire, the front tire, the front tire. No talent, no skills, no expensive bike, just a Maxxis plus tire up front. It's almost cheating.

I got a free Maxxis bag at the Fat Bike Nationals in Grand Rapids a year or two ago. I put it in my clean clothes bag. After I get done riding, I take a shower at the Y. I put my most sweaty clothes I have rinsed in that Maxxis bag. (the trip home is about an hour, but I also do some shopping and eating after I shower!) I like to have that mesh bag for the wet clothes.

Also, we don't have mandatory "no plastic bags" around us, but I still detest them. I try to use my reusable bag at grocery stores as much as possible. (except when I need some plastic bags for kitty litter.)

But ya, those Maxxis bags are nice!
