Hole in bottom of frame on bottom bracket?

I've been wondering....why is this hole here? It's about 1/4 inch in diameter. Is this a drain? Should I be worried about water/dirt getting into it and harming my crank?

    Thanks!

It is a drain. It's there to let any water that makes it into the BB (like through the seattube) drain out so that your BB doesn't rust and sieze.

It could also be for screwing in a runner for if they used to run the front der cable under the BB. Depends on the frame. More likely to be a drain, though.
