    Bull by the horns!

So I just have to ask,"What ever happened to the use of bar extenders?" Do you honestly think their lack of popularity is more a fashion trend then true function? I don't know about you but not only do I appreciate being able switch up back and hand posistions, but it just feels so good to stand up out and over the bars on the steep and have that rear tread dig in!

(I also use the upturned bar like a saddle horn and latch my dogs retactable leash on via a velcro quick release-whoa doggies!)

    From the same thread:

It is precisely what I think.
Beside convenience and possibility of changing the riding position, bar ends give some protection to hands when the hands are on the grips. Also, they protect the brake levers and shifters in case of crash. I personally prefer old fashioned long bent ends installed parallel to the ground, even with some angle downwards.
