Bike partially stolen - please help identify what parts I need!

    Hey all,

My girlfriends bike was recently stolen while it was locked up outside her office in downtown Austin. Well, partially stolen - the thief decided to cut the cables and take the bars... Still scratching my head at what good he's going to make from that, but either way I've got to put this thing back together now.

The bike is a Trek 520 touring, year unknown. Definitely an older model. Can anyone help confirm what I need to get it road worthy again, including headset bearing and bar sizes as applicable? I'm not very knowledgeable in this space. Thanks for any help!

you shouldn't need a new headset, unless the top cap and stuff went missing (If it was threaded, the fork would still be in the frame, so threadless fork/headset/stem).
    You will need:
    New stem
shifter that match the rear end (as in 7/8/9/10 speed whichever)
New brake levers (look like can get shifter/brake levers combined)
new cables thoughout, new outers for the front stuff, but may as well change everything.

It sux, plus why steal the stem/bar/parts from a bike liek that (not that its a bad bike, but it's not got valuable bits on it) crazy
there was a spate of soemone going around our uni campus years ago, they would steal seats/seatpost out of bikes, so people would take them with them, so then they stole the seatclamp...just crappy thing to do.
All the gear and no idea.

    What a bummer, totally lame!

Looks like there's a few bike co-ops in Austin, that'd probably be your best bet if you're unsure about what's what.

I would agree with the taking it to a co-op / LBS ..

or if you are feeling handy the list from earlier looks right.. if you decide to take on the job yourself maybe hit up the parktools youtube channel for some tutorials on the various tasks that need doing..
