    309l for columbus zona?

    Hi guys,

I've picked up some 309l welding rod ideally to use on the next frame. I've welded out some practice joints and really like the way it flows. However I've not really seen anyone using 309l, only 312.
I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any major concerns with using it? I will be back purging this frame, but I haven't backpurged before so the success of the purge might be questionable.

309 is intended for welding carbon steel to stainless steel. It's almost as strong a filler as 308. 312 is the stainless filler of choice for cro-moly applications and it's a lot stronger than 308/9. Burn the 309 to make practice joints but when it comes time to build something worth ridding, get the correct filler. It's not that expensive.
