    2020 vs 7005 alloys?

Anyone have an expertise on the differences between these alloys?

Lots of info on 6061 vs 7005, but not so much on other alloys, though I know 6069 is also common on some higher end alu frames.

I'm looking at the new Orbea Oiz alloy frame, and most of my other bikes are 7005 or Scandium alloys. Just fascinated by the differences in alloy properties and wondering if the fatigue strength of 2020 alloy is comparable to 7005.

    Thanks

    Also,

...not much about fatigue in that last article, but good info about strength of weld regions following heat-treatment.

Is it defo 2020? I've used it but its rare, as i recall it is a forged offspring of 2024 but with an added Lithium content to make it less dense.

UTS of all 2XXX series is only slightly lower than 7XXX, however i understand 2 series to be more prone to cracking after weld, but i ain't a welder, so thats not guranteed correct!

Could 2020 just be the model year? Either way, if you're not planning on welding things to your frame the particular grade of aluminum in a frame is not terribly important to a bike buying decision.

Another reference to the tubes being 2020 aluminum:

The new alloy Oiz H frameset uses a butted & hydroformed 2020 aluminum alloy tubeset that Orbea first welds, then smooths & polishes by hand.

Sorry, I have nothing useful to add.

2020 is the ALU alloy. Not the model year.
